FontForge is a libre font editor application that runs best on GNU+Linux (Fedora, Debian, Ubuntu, openSUSE, etc) and also runs well on Mac OS X. A Windows version is available but is unstable.
I am one of the more active contributors to FontForge. I help with the website, documentation, and suggesting new features, as I am a type designer, not a programmer.
