FreeBASIC Extended Library

  • Q: I'd like to participate. How do I begin?

    • 0

Reading the Getting Started page ( http://ext.freebasic.net/wiki/GettingStarted ) is a good place to begin as it covers installation and how to compile the latest development version ( highly recommended as it contains new features and bug fixes not in the latest stable release. ) A general User's Guide has been started as well: http://ext.freebasic.net/wiki/UsersGuide but it really just covers some more advanced topics and not much else. The API documentation http://ext.freebasic.net/dev-docs/ is the best place to learn how to use the library, but it is at the end of the day just a API documentation.

      Documentation

We like the current API documentation for documenting the functions, but a more user friendly series of tutorials on various aspects would go a long way towards user adoption of the project. We've set aside space in the User Guide located at http://ext.freebasic.net/wiki/ for things of this nature.

      • Example:

We need people to download version 0.4.5 and make sure the frobulator still frobulates correctly.

  • Q: What's a good bug for a newcomer to tackle?

We label all good starter bugs with the label BiteSize to make them easy to find. http://code.google.com/p/fb-extended-lib/issues/list?q=label:BiteSize

      • Tip:

Many projects have good small tasks that can teach newcomers how the project works. Now's your chance to share one of them!

Include URLs if relevant (we'll automatically linkify them).

      • Example:

Someone could improve the photo upload dialog box so that it lets you resize the photo before sending it to the web.

  • Q: What is a bug or issue with FreeBASIC Extended Library that you've been putting off, neglecting, or just plain avoiding?

    • 0
      DOS Support

At this point the DOS support is theoretical since no developers have access to working DOS system to test on. It'd be nice to know if it compiles as is (using DGJPP make) or just needs some simple changes to work.

I don't know how to get started with internationalizing my app.

Bug 392 about printing was filed five years ago, and I don't even know if printing still works.

I want help from a C coder writing a Maildir patch for Alpine.

If this issue was formally filed on the web, be sure to include the URL.
