1Try out and improve plugins
Try out one of the many plugins listed here:
http://padre.perlide.org/trac/wiki/Plugins
Update the info in this table. If you encounter problems, file tickets for them, or get help from IRC to fix the problem yourself.
Some plugins still lack features, and implementing can be a bit easier than adding new features to the Padre core!

Q: What's a good bug for a newcomer to tackle?

1Moving language settings from menu to the preferences dialog.
Here is the bug report:
http://padre.perlide.org/trac/ticket/741This should not be too hard, and dealing with the issue will expose you to some aspects of the Padre codebase, e.g. the menu system, message localization, and the preferences dialog.
If you need some hints, ask for assistance on IRC or the mailing list.

0Support $1, $2, etc. for regex search and replace
http://padre.perlide.org/trac/ticket/995
If you know Perl regular expressions and the s/// operator, this functionality should be obvious for you.
If you need a hint where to start, ask for assistance on IRC or the mailing list.

0CPAN Installer is incomplete
http://padre.perlide.org/trac/ticket/1045
The first two parts of the bugs would be some small enhancements to the modules Padre::Wx::CPAN::Listview, Padre::Wx::CPAN, and Padre::CPAN.
The third part would be capturing CPAN's textual output and presenting it to the Padre user.
