The Two-Layered GUI Toolkit

  • Q: I'd like to participate. How do I begin?

    • 0

Basically, there are three kinds of contributions currently welcome in this project:
      * Extend the basic feature set (new dialog boxes, for example). Both a definition class as well as widget toolkit-dependent bindings must be supplied.
      * Fix the existing WinForms binding. Most of it works well, but it still needs some tweaking to run well on Mono, not only .NET. For this reason, we're looking for someone who has some experience with WinForms in Mono.
      * Adding bindings to additional widget toolkits. So far, only WinForms is supported, but plans are to add Gtk# and WPF. Possibly others, if there are any other wide-spread .NET/Mono-compatible GUI toolkits.

      Help Improve the Documentation

This is quite a code-oriented project, so there is not much to do which wouldn't require writing any code. However, you could toy around with the library and point out parts of the API documentation that aren't yet helpful enough to use the library.

      • Tip:

Discuss documentation, testing, webmastering, and/or publicity.

Include URLs if relevant (we'll automatically linkify them).

      • Example:

We need people to download version 0.4.5 and make sure the frobulator still frobulates correctly.

  • Q: What's a good bug for a newcomer to tackle?

      • Tip:

Many projects have good small tasks that can teach newcomers how the project works. Now's your chance to share one of them!

Include URLs if relevant (we'll automatically linkify them).

      • Example:

Someone could improve the photo upload dialog box so that it lets you resize the photo before sending it to the web.

  • Q: What is a bug or issue with The Two-Layered GUI Toolkit that you've been putting off, neglecting, or just plain avoiding?

      Fix WinForms Binding on Mono

The WinForms-binding has some problems on Mono, but works well on .NET. The project needs someone with some experience in using WinForms under Mono to work around the bugs.

      • Examples:

I don't know how to get started with internationalizing my app.

Bug 392 about printing was filed five years ago, and I don't even know if printing still works.

I want help from a C coder writing a Maildir patch for Alpine.

If this issue was formally filed on the web, be sure to include the URL.

About The Two-Layered GUI Toolkit

(logo)

This project provides a GUI toolkit for frequently used dialog boxes. Most things in this toolkit have two layers, an abstract descriptive layer and a binding layer that creates the actual GUI using a GUI toolkit such as WinForms.
