Q: I'd like to participate. How do I begin?

WarFoundry needs a range of helpers from coders to testers to translators to advocates. Full details are on our Get Involved page (http://warfoundry.co.uk/get-involved.html).
If you want to jump right in with the code then check out the "Getting Started" guide (http://dev.ibboard.co.uk/projects/warfoundry/wiki/Development/GettingStarted).
If you want to get involved in other aspects of the community then drop in to our forums and say hello (http://forums.hiveworldterra.co.uk/viewforum.php?f=39).

Q: Other than writing code, how can I contribute?
-
1Testing and bug reporting
We need people to download the latest builds (or, if you're feeling adventurous, the latest code from source control) and test for bugs and usability. If you find any then please report them in our bug tracking system (http://warfoundry.co.uk/development/query)

1Community advocate/evangelist
We're in a market against a very well known application (that hideous looking one with the non-standard widgets that only really works on Windows and that has threatened legal action over generic phrases). Because of this we need people to spread the word - there is an alternative that is free as in beer and speech and it needs your help!

1Translators
The WarFoundry UIs should all be translatable, allowing the app to be readable for any locale that has a translation file. Ticket 203 (http://dev.ibboard.co.uk/projects/warfoundry/ticket/203) collects together all of our contributed translations and we're always looking for more.

1Documentation
Most of WarFoundry's documentation is kept on the Wiki pages and is currently developer oriented. We try to cover data file creation as well, but users are left to explore the application themselves. Any documentation to help newcomers would greatly help the project!

1Graphics and UI
Developers can create applications that they understand, but accessibility and usability for other users is often hit or miss. Suggestions, creations and mock-ups of better usability will help make WarFoundry more accessible to more users.

Q: What's a good bug for a newcomer to tackle?
-
0"Papercuts" are small tasks
Following the Ubuntu naming idea (which is quite accurate), any tasks tagged "papercut" (http://dev.ibboard.co.uk/projects/warfoundry/tags?q='papercut') should be a small task that doesn't involve too much in-depth knowledge - the perfect task for a newcomer to get familiar with.

Q: What is a bug or issue with WarFoundry that you've been putting off, neglecting, or just plain avoiding?
-
0Check the bug tracker!
Our bug tracker has lots of bugs and improvement requests recorded (http://dev.ibboard.co.uk/projects/warfoundry/query), but because it is currently a one-man show then far more than I'd like are being delayed. The main focus that I've not got time for are the Army Builder support tasks (http://dev.ibboard.co.uk/projects/warfoundry/query?status=accepted&status=assigned&status=confirmed&status=needinfo&status=needinfo_new&status=new&status=reopened&component=ArmyBuilder-Support-API&order=priority)
